Brussels, 25 October 2007 - SATO DCS & Labelling presents the new S84 series, the rugged industrial generation of high performance printers with high resolution capabilities. The S84 series is a user-friendly printer providing high throughput and print speed in barcode label production. The S84 series continues the tradition set by the SATO S-type OEM print engine, and represents the next generation of leading edge print/apply print engines in the world's OEM print engine leader.

Some of the RFID ready S84 series' most unique features include a superior print performance, a user-friendly operation panel with LCD display, multiple print resolution availability, excellent durability, easy of maintenance, and future upgradeability.

"On the fly" ribbon changes

The S84 series benefit from a ribbon saver and 1,000 meter ribbon capacity for maximum application up-time between ribbon changes. An optional quick-change ribbon cassette offers virtually "on the fly" ribbon changes.

Superior print performance

The S84 series incoroporates SATO's decades of proven experience in high precision engineering. Coupled with state-of-the-art print and font technology, this series of printers guarantees top quality prints with maximum label-design flexibility in any operational environment. Print speeds up to 16 ips offer fast label output and maximum throughput.

User-friendly operation panel and LCD display

The multi-function operation key panel and large message LCD (3.0" x 1.6") provide an easy to read display with easy to use navigation controls. The large LCD screen enables operators to easily read the menus and status messages displayed on the screen. The Optional LVDS Kit allows the Operational panel to be accessed from a few meters away/to be placed apart from the printer.

Multiple print resolution availability

The S84 series print engine is available in 203 dpi, 305 dpi or 609 dpi resolution - each at full 4.09" print width. End users with multiple resolution requirements within the same location now have common SATO print engine base, as each of these print resolutions is available within the same S84 base model.

Field configurable print resolution

The S84 series is the first and only print engine available with field configurable print resolution of 203, 305 or 609 dpi. Of course it may be ordered factory configured in any of the three resolutions. However if the need arises, the resolution can be changed in the field simply changing the printhead and, perhaps, modifying the drive belt placement. Belt placement changes are not required when changing between 305 and 609 dpi.

Excellent durability and ease of maintenance

The S84 series printers feature a durable heavy-duty print mechanism for high-volume barcode label production. They are easy to maintain and clean in daily operations.

The one-touch, tool-less printhead release mechanism allows for fast and efficient printhead changes
