Hospital in Poland - Improved inventory labelling and tracking

Hospital Increases it's Productivity with SATO Printers

End user: Central Clinical Hospital for the ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration
System: Inventory Management
Benefits: Improved inventory labelling and tracking

As an established general hospital, Central Clinical Hospital provides thorough care with comprehensive diagnosis and treatment, all in one hospital complex. This means more comfort for the patient and a shorter stay at the hospital. At their 31 departments and wards, there are 750 beds for overnight hospitalization as well as beds for patients requiring only one day care.

Client's requirements

Central Clinical Hospital specifically requested for fast and precise printing on a very durable material that can resist heat and water to mark hospital's equipment. They needed this to meet one of the requirements of obtaining the ISO 9002 certification. These labels serve as a mean for identifying the equipment as a property of the hospital and help in inventory check and control of its quality. This is especially important for hospitals since it is crucial for them to ensure that their equipments are working properly. In this instance, barcodes help our client to track and eliminate the use the faulty thermometer s.

Client's problems / constraints

Being one of the biggest hospitals in Poland, our client needed a solution for identifying its large inventory especially for its thermometers. Because of the usage conditions, these thermometers needed durable and long-lasting labels that could resist heat and water. The main challenge was to be able to label the thermometers very quickly as the usage rate was very high and very frequent. High print quality was also necessary for scanning purposes as the main constraint was the size of labels - 15x5mm. In addition, they also required an on-demand printer and a user-friendly labelling programme to design new labels.

SATO's recommendations / proposals

With a speed of 4ips and high print quality of 305dpi, SATO proposed a printer from its "Compact Series" - the CT 410 and a label design programme - Label Gallery Easy which best suited client's requirements. For printing material SATO recommended polyester labels with very strong adhesive which is highly resistant to heat and water enabling thermometers to be disinfected and washed yet not damaging or deteriorating the print quality of the labels at all. Best of all, these SATO labels have proven to be exceptionally strong and the print, durable, and they will stay intact for a period of up to six months before they needed to be replaced.

What they have benefited from

By implementing this labelling system for its thermometers, the hospital has fulfilled one of the requirements of ISO 9002 and improved the inventory labelling and tracking. As the system has proven to be very efficient, the hospital is also considering marking its other equipment using SATO products and technology.
