Pallet Labelling with the SATO Print Engine M8460Se

End user: Drinks company
System: Print and Apply System
Benefits: Improved pallet labelling. Increased customer satisfaction

Overview

Through close working relationships with Business Partners, SATO products are installed in a large number of print and apply systems throughout the world. One of these partnerships has led to the installation of SATO S-Type printers in a world renowned soft drinks company, in their Austrian plant.

This drinks company were previously only labelling one side of their packages of canned and bottled drinks. However, customers requested that 2 sides were to be labelled so that they could receive the pallets more easily.

Issues: Front and Side Labelling

2 different types of labelling systems were needed. The first system had to be able to print and apply a label to the front of a package on the pallet. The second system had to print and apply an identical label on the side of a package on a pallet, without moving the pallet.

Solution: Print and Apply

A SATO M 8460Se OEM module was installed alongside an applicator to print and apply the labels, delivering labels up to 165mm wide and 359 mm in pitch, with a print speed of up to 200mm/second. With the new generation enhanced processor, it also allows for an unparalled performance in label throughput, enabling large labels to be produced with speedy efficiency.

To position the labels correctly on the palletised cans and bottles, the applicator used a moving arm with a plate at the end to place the label on to the front of the package. For the second system however, an identical label had to be printed on to the side of the package as well. To do this the same arm was used which moved to the side of the pallet and the plate which applies the label rotates 90 degrees so that the second label is applied on to the side of the package.

Benefits

With the innovation of the SATO Business Partner to provide this individual solution and with the SATO M 8460Se OEM module at the heart of the application, this soft drinks company has been able to improve its pallet labelling and improve the efficiency of the handling and transportation of goods to the customer. Customer requirements have been met, more on-time business has resulted and increased customer satisfaction has led to more orders.
