No More Mix Ups In The LabEnd user: Industrial Gas Producer Overview A company producing industrial gases was labelling their products by hand and needed to make the procedure more efficient. Issues: Disappearing Ink The company was experiencing problems. Gas bottles were being mixed up because labels were coming off. They also found that the ink on the label sometimes faded or disappeared when exposed to sunlight, water or chemicals. A solution was needed that would be resistant to harsh environments. A high quality print was also essential, as the company wanted its logo printed on the label. Solution: Safe with SATO The company used its own software together with the SATO CL 612 thermal transfer printer to overcome the issues. Label formats stored on the server are now connected to a database. The operator selects the appropriate label design and also selects the name of the gas he/she wishes to label. The software automatically takes the correct data from the database and prints it on the label. Included in every label design is the company logo. This needs to be printed in a clear, crisp manner time and time again. For these reasons the gas producer chose the CL 612 to print the labels. With a print resolution of 300dpi and a great performance record, the CL612 delivers the quality print required. The CL 612 was also chosen because it prints labels up to 6 inches wide. The gas bottle labels often have to contain large amounts of information, including test and warning messages. Labels are therefore sometimes as big as A5. The label was also carefully selected to address 2 problems. Firstly the label material must have chemical resistant properties, preventing the print from fading away when exposed to harsh environments. Secondly the label adhesive must be very strong ø labels must remain on the bottles for the duration of the chemical life, as a safety measure. Benefits The problem of bottles getting mixed up was solved by using a strong adhesive for the labels. With the special label face, text and warning messages remained clear and legible, even when exposed to water, chemicals or sunlight. The SATO CL 612 also provided a 300 dpi resolution, and a wide print width required to crisply print all the necessary information, and the company logo on an A5 label. As well as addressing these initial problems, the company also found the SATO CL 612 extremely easy to operate and low maintenance. By linking the label designs to the database it was now much easier to select and print labels. The new system improved their overall efficiency and the speed of labelling.
