Professional Customised Software

End user: Engineering Company
System: Label Gallery label design software installed throughout the company, enabling barcode labels to be printed on all types of printers
Benefits: Easy to use software driving all printers. Standardised label designs and professional label formats, retrieving up to date information from numerous databases. In-house customised input screens for a range of user abilities

Overview

Throughout their large site, the engineering company was printing labels on a range of printers, such as laser and thermal transfer, from a range of manufacturers. Labels were designed using an outdated software program, which no longer met its demands.

Issues: Complicated Label Design

The complicated software could only be used by a limited few. New software was needed that could easily and securely be customised by supervisors, to meet changing label needs and varying levels of users. No database function existed either, resulting in the manual input of data. A software program was required with the ability to create and edit databases. Data entry must also be possible for new parts brought into production.

Solution: Professional Customised Software ø designed in-house

SATO Label Gallery, a suite of programs, was the chosen software.

Installed on every computer to drive all the company's printers, the software is used by staff with varied computer skills. While most employees have print-only access to the software, supervisors use passwords to access the design program, where they can securely update the label formats. The design program is easy to use with many time-saving features in the form of wizards, allowing users to create complex labels, with very little training.

Vital to the project was the use of databases. Using Label Gallery's database component, staff with passwords are able to design, maintain and add new products to databases and print labels with variables and database links.

Lastly, the Label Gallery Form program enabled customised input screens to be built. Created by supervisors, rather than expensive specialists, these visual interfaces are customised to individual team's needs and can be continuously modified as requirements expand.

Benefits

Label Gallery drives all the printers installed around the engineering company's site. Wizards make label design simple and passwords ensure security. Databases are easily created and constantly maintained so that real time information is always available. Manual input of data is reduced, avoiding human error and saving time. Input screens are designed in-house, avoiding costly experts, while providing a personalised interface. Label designs, databases and input screens can all be modified in-house, on demand. Label Gallery is fully customised software, which can be developed to suit requirements now and in the future.
