Producing a range of products that can change from one day to the next, this retail company needs to be able to produce a run of labels to match the daily production.
Issues: "Futureproof" Software
The program installed was out of date. Its graphics and database handling were inadequate. New software needed to be "future proof", have a wide range of design features, and most importantly, connect to an array of existing databases in MS Access format. In-house designing of front ends was also a future requirement.
Solution: Long term approval following lengthy testing
SATO Label Gallery software was selected: a suite of programs capable of fulfilling all the identified needs.The label design component, Label Gallery Plus, supports all the graphic image types that could be encountered, and the built-in database function had the ability to connect to other Access data sources.
Label Gallery Plus can connect to databases in many formats, and collect data by many different methods. However, to accomplish this company's goal of production runs, Label Gallery Plus was linked to an ODBC data source pointing to the appropriate database. This connected Label Gallery Plus to standard queries, as well as tables, created within the main Access database. Those in charge of producing labels accessed the table, selected the desired part numbers - by checking records, and printed the label through their full version of Label Gallery Plus, which then accessed the query.
Benefits
Using Label Gallery, label production is much faster and more efficient than in the past. Users can now connect to all existing databases across the network - without modification. They can produce the required unique production runs of part numbers and thanks to Label Gallery Plus' powerful built in functions, database information can be easily manipulated.
For future use, they have the option to create custom front ends by using Label Gallery Form, the mask program module, to make the operator's job easy and foolproof.
