SATO labelling solutions used by ‘Nobis’ for error-free ingredient labelling.

Hirschhorn, 5 September 2007 +++ Hirschhorn, SATO, the world’s leading manufacturer of label and barcode printers and specialist in Data Collection Systems (DCS) and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) has developed a bespoke solution for labelling of ingredients on outer packaging of pastries from Nobis.

‘Printen’ is a winter specialty pastry from Aachen. The traditional family company - Nobis has about 23 outlets in the area of Aachen and they export ‘Printen’ varieties all over the world. To comply with the food-labelling regulation LMKV, Nobis has to label the cellophane package of ‘Printen, with a list of all ingredients.

Based on their previous positive experience, Nobis decided to go for a complete labelling solution from SATO –CL412e label printer, hand scanner, PC and customised labels in sync with corporate colours of Nobis - white print on red background.

In the past, the article numbers were manually typed by the staff with the potential for errors. Now the Nobis bakery staff can conveniently scan the article from the handbook, choose the number of the labels required and print them. This simple and efficient process not only avoids mistakes but also saves time.

All labels used by Nobis are now manufactured in the corporate colour ‘Nobis red’ by SATO at their factory in Hirschhorn. Variable data including ingredients, article name, producer details, best before date and storage tips is added in white using the SATO system.

Traditionally the demand of our Printen variety is very high around Christmas, hence the end of year is our peak season”, Heiner Nobis explained. “That’s when the SATO solution is a big advantage - we can print a lot of different labels for around 300 different products within a short time without the risk of any mistakes. Another advantage is the SATO label design software which is easy to use and allows for labels to be redesigned and updated as required”.
