SATO is a designated technology partner for Adler's prize-winning RFID tagging solution


Tokyo, Japan, 28 July 2014 – SATO, a global leader in barcode printing, labelling, and EPC/RFID solutions has supplied radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology to Adler fashion shops in Germany, Austria and Luxembourg. Adler, one of the largest retail clothing chains in Germany, won the Retail Technology Award Europe 2014 in the Best Enterprise Solution category at EuroShop 2014 for its new item-level RFID tagging solution which has been implemented across its 170 stores.


The EHI Retail Institute awards the prize to retailers who use especially innovative information technologies. The jury, consisting of representatives from industry, universities and research organisations, were particularly impressed by the efficiency gains for boosting the accuracy of inventory levels, the cost benefits from more efficient merchandise control and security, targeted in-store after-sales service and distinctly improved merchandise availability for consumers.


Adler uses SATO’s tagging solution in its shops to print RFID labels, and the tagging solution facilitates a reorganisation of the entire warehousing and stock data collection system. To build this solution, SATO is offering a comprehensive package including 200 CL4 printers, matching RFID labels and customer support.


Adler is using the RFID technology in stationary and mobile tagging applications and data capture processes. The stationary processes range from goods data capture between the stockroom and the sales area, POS transactions and merchandise security at the customer exit. Incoming goods data capture, inventory data acquisition in the warehouse and on the sales floor, and all mobile data acquisition processes implemented in the previous system are now performed using RFID technology.


Using the RFID technology, Adler is able to increase the accuracy of inventory data in its shops for the entire clothing collection, optimise stock taking and thereby reducing stock shortages. Optimised merchandise traceability also enables seamless and accurate restocking. Increased process efficiency results in shorter turn-around times, and faster point of sale (POS) processing increases customer satisfaction. RFID technology also provides security throughout the garment supply chain, from shipment to the shop floor, thereby reducing loss of garments and realising cost savings.


SATO's CL4e family of advanced RFID-capable label printers feature high speed and durability. They offer high data transfer speed, unparalleled processing speed (maximum printing speed: 152 mm/s) and large internal memory (16 MB RAM) for easy management of all label printing tasks. A latest-generation 32-bit RISC processor ensures high performance for label production, even when printing directly from Windows. The CL4e printers set new standards for label throughput and are ideal for use in the retail sector.
