SATO Develops Next Generation Cloud Platform for Labelling Applications and Connectivity
24/10/24SATO Holdings Corporation (TOKYO: 6287), a global pioneer in auto-ID and labelling solutions, announced the development of its next-generation cloud platform by SATO Europe. This platform enables no-code development of applications and connectivity with databases and SaaS platforms. In a related move, SATO has invested in MobileLogic Sweden AB.
SATO first introduced AEP (Application Enabled Printing) intelligence in its printers in 2010 to allow for customised label printing applications from external data sources via a local network. With AEP, SATO printers can connect directly with peripherals such as barcode scanners, weigh scales, thermometers, as well as PLCs (programmable logic controllers), to process data for printing without the need for a PC. By advancing AEP into a cloud platform, SATO enables the creation of no-code business applications, providing scalability and data connectivity to meet operational needs with agility and efficiency.
SATO is currently working to innovate its existing business while creating new ventures in line with its medium-term management plan announced in March 2024, which seeks to enhance core operations while generating new revenue streams by advancing auto-ID solutions.
The development of this next-generation cloud platform is part of the group’s efforts to expand its global business. As companies increasingly adopt cloud-first strategies, SATO is strengthening its portfolio of cloud-based products and services to align with market demands. The no-code and low-code platform allows for agile development and deployment of applications that provide data connectivity with customers’ IT systems such as ERP, WMS, and MES, helping SATO compete more effectively in the global market.
This new platform also paves the way for the development of subscription services, where hardware, software, consumables (tags, labels, wristbands, etc.), and maintenance services can be flexibly combined to meet customer needs. It also establishes a foundation for SATO’s data management business, driving growth across Europe and the world.
