SATO France S.A.S. and SOPREMA Sign a Strategic Partnership for Glassine Recycling

Templemars, April 2025 – SATO France S.A.S. and SOPREMA France have announced the signing of a partnership agreement aimed at promoting a glassine recycling program, led by SOPREMA.

A glassine recycling programme supporting circular transition

Glassine, a smooth, translucent, grease- and water-resistant “silicone paper,” is widely used as a backing for adhesive labels packaged in rolls. Each year, nearly 50,000 tons of glassine waste are generated in France, most of which is still landfilled or incinerated, with a negative impact on the environment. However, recycling channels have been developed to repurpose this material into insulation, pellets or recycled paper.

Roles and responsibilities

As part of this partnership:

• SOPREMA oversees the collection, transport, and transformation of glassine waste into reusable raw materials (cellulose wadding, insulation) using its patented process in Cestas (Gironde department, France).
• SATO France S.A.S. acts as a trusted intermediary for its partners: it informs and directs them to SOPREMA without handling the recycling itself, thereby facilitating access to this eco-friendly initiative.
